| Nestled within the hills of
Penang is the largest Buddhist temple in South-East Asia. Built on
sprawling grounds, it is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy and is
called Kek Lok Si Temple (Temple of Paradise). The 7-tier Pagoda
of 10,000 Buddhas dominates the temple. The temple is influenced by
mix-style of architecture including Thai, Burmese and Chinese. Next,
take an enjoyable funicular rail ride up Penang Hill, 830m above
sea level, to have a panoramic view of Georgetown and the Straits of
Malacca. Penang Hill was established as a cool hill retreat during
the colonial days.
